Terms of Service

Last updated: September 10, 2026

1. The service

ScoutAPI provides an HTTP API returning publicly listed marketplace data from Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, OfferUp and Mercari. By creating an account or using an API key, you agree to these terms.

2. Accounts and API keys

You are responsible for keeping your API key secret and for all activity under it. Keys are stored only as irreversible hashes, so we cannot recover a lost key — you can issue a replacement from your dashboard at any time, which immediately revokes the previous one.

One account per person or organization. Do not share, resell or sublicense your key.

3. Plans, limits and billing

Each plan includes a monthly call allowance and a per-minute rate limit, both published on our pricing page. Each platform in a request counts as one call — a request covering three platforms consumes three calls. Requests that fail to return data are not counted against your allowance.

Paid plans bill monthly in advance through Stripe and renew automatically until cancelled. Changing plans takes effect immediately, including the new call allowance. Cancel any time from the billing portal in your dashboard; access continues to the end of the paid period.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Resell, redistribute or republish raw API responses as a competing data feed.
  • Use the API to harass, defraud or profile individual sellers.
  • Circumvent rate limits or call allowances, including via multiple accounts.
  • Use the service in violation of any applicable law, or of the terms of the marketplaces whose public listings are returned.

We may suspend or terminate an account that breaches this section, and will refund any unused portion of a prepaid period where the breach was not deliberate.

5. Availability

We do not currently offer a contractual uptime guarantee or service credits. The API depends on third-party marketplaces and infrastructure providers, and individual platforms may be temporarily unavailable. Current status is published at /api/health.

Requests are fault-isolated per platform: if one marketplace fails, the others still return results.

6. Data accuracy

Listing data originates from third-party marketplaces and is served from a cache with a fifteen-minute lifetime. It may be incomplete, outdated, or removed at the source. Do not rely on it as the sole basis for a financial decision.

7. Liability

The service is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind to the extent permitted by law. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.

8. Changes

We may update these terms. Material changes will be announced by email to account holders at least fourteen days before taking effect. Continued use after that date constitutes acceptance.
